It's almost the most wonderful time of the year for an entrepreneur. The precious week where 'all' the world seems to soften at the edges and you might finally, eventually get to rest after a 6-8 long, hard weeks of selling online and off.

But entrepreneurs are like sportscars. You need to run the engine every so often to make sure it will work when you need it. That's why there are at least 3 'things' you can do for your email marketing in Q4 to prepare for a successful Q1.

  1. Set your sending schedule for Q1: However you ‘remind’ yourself to do things (VAT, I’m looking at you!) set a system to hold yourself accountable. I use Google Tasks to keep myself organized. Maybe you’re a paper diary or a post-it and prayer kind of player, but whatever you do to keep on top of the business admin set a goal to send at least 1 email a month for Q126 and use this month as the time to set up that plan.

  2. Create a content bank: Do you suffer from 'too little to say'-itis OR it's evil twin 'too much to say'-ism? Let's keep it simple. What can you talk about to provide value for your audience? Read: This is not what can you do to make a sale. What can you share from your knowledge bank to educate, entertain and empathize with your subscribers? Write down 2-3 'ideas' in each of those categorizes and put them somewhere you can find come January when your alarm for your first 2026 'send' goes ringing.

  3. Check your sign ups: Are you already collecting emails on your website? Double check where they are ending up. (I.e. Does your sign up form work?). If you're not already collecting emails, use this 'downtime' ( yeah right, laughed every entrepreneur) and set up your ESP (email service provider). Done is better than perfect, always.

Summary:

Set a sending schedule you'll stick to. Brainstorm the content to send. Make sure that your sign up forms are collecting -- don't have any yet? Set them up!
